National Service Scheme  (Unit No. 258)

The National Service Scheme Unit of RGM Government Arts & Science College is established with an aim to enhance and empower various talents of youth so that they can fruitfully participate in nation building process. Calicut University sanctioned the NSS Unit to our college in the academic year 2018 and in the same year itself the unit started functioning. In order to actualize the aim of NSS ie, “Personality Development through community service”, the unit has been indulging in various social oriented activities from the beginning till date.

 

 

 

 

Since NSS unit is a socially committed association, we do always focus on the society and its various needs. Some of the events are:

• “Hridhyam- helping hands to the needy” (provides assistance to five families every month).
• “Sowhridam”- an initiative for tribal youth development.
• “Jeevana” – blood donation programme.
• “Koode”- community focused activities.
• “Deeptham”- library activities (so far the Unit has opened Two libraries in two adopted villages- Vechapathy & kottamala).
• “Dwhani”- talent fest for the higher secondary school students of Attappadi
• Providing skill development classes to school level students
• Visiting rehabilitation centres (there volunteers assist in kitchen works, serving food to the inmates, trimming hair and nails, etc.)
• Setting up organic kitchen gardens
• Frequent disposal of plastic waste
• Stage street plays on social issues and environmental issues
• Flood relief activities (Renovated ten houses during the academic year 2018-’19)
• Medical camp
• Protection of water resources
• Distribution of study materials among needy students
• Conducts Food Fest to raise fund for Palliative Care activities
• Awareness programmes on relevant topics
